Tour Details
The adventure begins in Kailua Kona, where our van awaits with fresh fruit and pastries. We head south along the sun-drenched gold coast through much of historic Kona and Kealakekua Bay to view tropical gardens, coffee plantations, and a dramatic coast line. We will take you back in time to experience Hawai`i Island within a historical and cultural context not found on other tours.
Our first stop is a snorkel adventure at Honaunau Bay, named one of the top beaches in the U.S. by the Travel Channel. This underwater natural reserve harbors an abundance of sea life. Well developed coral gardens, surgeonfishes, tangs, parrotfishes, turtles, and spinner dolphins are just a handful of the sea life you might observe.
Across the bay is Pu‘uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park where you will be personally guided around the ancient temples and ki’i (wooden images) that teach us about these sacred grounds. Hawaiians who came here sought refuge from the laws they had broken (kapu) in order to avoid certain death. Fish ponds and coastal trails once reserved for the Ali‘i (royalty) are well preserved and now open to the public.
A delicious and hearty lunch will be served at the Park’s beach.
. Stop for pictures at Kealakekua Bay and Captain Cook Monument.
. Visit St. Benedict’s Painted Church
Kona is famous for its coffee farms. Discover at Kona Joe Coffee how Kona coffee is produced and experience its exquisite smoothness when it is fresh-brewed and home grown. A fully-guided tour of the production facilities is followed by a variety of coffee – and chocolate – tastings.
